Librarian
Job Description
The school librarian is responsible for managing the library, providing students and staff with access to a wide range of educational resources, promoting a culture of reading, and supporting research and information literacy. The librarian plays a key role in fostering a love for reading and ensuring students develop essential skills for accessing, evaluating, and using information effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Library Management & Organization:
Oversee the acquisition, cataloging, and maintenance of books, digital resources, and multimedia materials.
Organize and maintain the library’s collection, ensuring accessibility and proper classification.
Manage the library’s budget and procure necessary resources.
Develop policies and procedures for library use and ensure adherence.
Student & Staff Support:
Assist students and teachers in finding and using library resources effectively.
Promote literacy and reading programs, including book clubs and reading challenges.
Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum.
Teach students research skills, digital literacy, and ethical information use.
Technology & Digital Resources:
Maintain and update library databases and digital catalogs.
Provide guidance on the use of online research tools and educational software.
Support students in using e-books, online databases, and digital learning platforms.
Reading & Literacy Promotion:
Organize book fairs, author visits, and storytelling sessions.
Curate book collections based on age groups, reading levels, and curriculum needs.
Encourage reading through engaging displays, book recommendations, and reading incentives.
Administrative Duties:
Keep records of borrowed and returned materials.
Monitor student behavior and enforce library rules.
Supervise library assistants and volunteers, if applicable.
